The School is located in the beautiful Oceanfront Resort City of Virginia Beach, adjacent to the Norfolk International Airport. AIM is housed in its own twenty-four thousand square foot building with outside areas designated for aircraft tie downs and engine run ups. There are eleven classrooms used for lecture and a large shop and hangar area divided into separate sections for assorted lab instruction. The shop area is filled with all the necessary aviation training aids required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for instruction in this course. The school’s equipment includes a number of aircraft, turbine and piston engines, airframes, parts, tools, and training aids. The school also has a comfortable student lounge and a library with an FAA resource center for use by all staff and students Programs Offered At AIM Virginia Beach/ Norfolk Campus Aviation Institute of Maintenance offers a FAA approved, Part 147, Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) program which qualifies graduates to become certified Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics. AIM Virginia Beach also offers an Associate of Occupational Science degree program giving graduates a leading edge. In 1996, AIM was accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT). In 1997, the FAA established a FAA Educational Resource Center in the Schoool’s library, and AIM became a FAA approved testing facility. Student LifeStudent life is as diverse and enjoyable as the people who attend AIM. The school provides both day and evening classes to help accommodate students’ family and work schedules. The campus is located in Virginia Beach, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Chesapeake Bay in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. This area is rich with history of both the Revolutionary and US Civil wars and is the site of many fun and exciting annual festivals and events. All instructors are certified technicians with extensive experience working on commercial, military, and general aviation aircraft. The curriculum involves sufficient classroom time devoted to learning the basics, and hours of hands-on training in the shop. Students are trained to service, repair, and troubleshoot aircraft components and systems including airframes, propellers, instrumentation, piston engines, turbine engines, electrical, hydraulic, warning, and environmental systems.
